if youre looking for a good effecient setup or maybe something small enough to fly in small places but dont want something smaller than a 2 inch, then this is the setup for you~

Oct 6, 2018 - I used to have this 2 inch quad but it quickly didn't match what i want in a quad. It was heavy for its size and i didnt feel the effeciency (like it has decent flight times, but it still felt wierd). I wanted to have a good balance between speed, agility, floatiness, and flight time. I had several revisions ranging from 20x20 to 16x16 stacks, from 1102-1106, different frames, and so on. In the end it all came down to how heavy the quad was. I found that some 2.5" frames are lighter than the 2" frames and that prompt me to go with 2.5" props than 2" for lightweightness and more thrust. I think that this hits a sweet spot for those who want an all around quadcopter (tbh even a beginner could fly this easily while an expert can still ham the acro out of it).

Oct 16, 2018 New Frame design is in progress but i have no one to cnc cut it as of now. The new frame design will either be true X or a hybrid X frame (wider than longer). It will be a top mounted battery because bottom mounted batteries tend to dent the battery during bad landings, crashes, etc. New motors will be used (Eaglepower 1103 8000kv. Apperently these motors are slightly better than racerstars) I will also try 3" as someone suggested in the comments. I also found out you can lose weight from using floss to mount your props?

Nov 16, 2018 I've convinced myself to use an already made frame and work 3d printed parts for it. I've settled with using the kingkong/ldarc fpv egg 136mm. Based on pictures its just 10 grams (bottom carbon part only). I want to turn the FPV egg 136mm into something like the Umagawd remix frame. I kinda need help in designing the bottom cage and camera sideplates but I know its possible. The batteries will be mounted on top (just like the remix). Im excited for this!!! and lastly, its going to be a 3"!!!!

Nov 21, 2018 I'm going to get the frame today so i can start planning the layout of the quad. Hopefully itll all fit in together the way I planned and that the frame is stiff. I'm considering a 3s setup too but thatll just increase weight (maybe over 100g who knows). Based on some research, I'll try out the gemfan 2.5" prop first then the 3025 because I've seen people say that the triblades are more locked in than the 3" but the 3" has more thrust in them. I'll be testing both anyways. Still need someone to help me with the 3D design of the lower cage. The camera should fit a EOS caddx camera. Hopefully the frame ends up less then 20g so It'll still be agile and light. I'm also planning on using 1s batteries together to make 2s with 2 ph 2.0 connectors (like the new 2s whoops out there). I wish i wouldnt have to resort to using a xt30 cause that'll surely add weight.

Dec 5, 2018 I might get bigger motors for this project mainly because the quad is getting quite heavy and the motors dont have enough torque. Maybe a 1104-5 motor will do the trick. Im also trying to practice my CAD to make the 3d printed mounts for the Caddx Eos2 and the other parts. So far this project has been reallllyyyy hard!!! well maybe its just me over complicating this hahaha. For the mean time I have 2 other builds in plan. A 2" and a 3". Im sure those will be easy builds.

To save weight and to prevent it from breaking upon a crash (having a lightweight frame isn't exactly the best for a 1106 6000kv right?), I decided that using 1103 than something bigger would meet all the things I want in the quad. In case any of you want some info i researched on, heres the gist of what i found

1102 7800kv 1103 10000kv 1103 80000kv
Can effeciently carry a 2.5" prop but probably be best with 1s Best with a 2" and effecient Best with 2.5", effecient

if anyones asking for the frame, I'm still trying to order a few great candidates like the Rotorious Crook 110 (which is like <10 grams) or the Lil' duece (which is 12 grams?) frames (but because of where I live, I cant exactly buy it, so ill have to wait for a solution). Right now, the frame you see in the pictures is just a VX110 (thats just the bottom plate and the arms) thats been modified to fit a 16x16 ( i basically had a 2x elf, attached the VX110 on it by the 20x20 mounting holes, then drilled the 16x16 mounting holes. This makes it easy to get that 16x16 mounting accurate) Then the very topplate you see is just a 18x18 square, with 16x16 holes, and one side has a spot where the camera can poke out off

Flight times on this current prototype is 4-6 mins on a 450mah 2s GNB

  • 4 mins if I'm trying to do acrobatics
  • 6 mins if im just tuning or hovering or cruising

I think a 350 will be better for 2 reasons

  1. lighter battery is always a plus
  2. i think 3 mins is the sweet spot for having fun. Going over 4 mins kinda gets boring unless you are really "in the flow" as a lot of top pilots say.

This is just a protoype as of now. I have flown it, but it needs a good tuning session in a nice open place before I show you guys how it flies.

An idea: follow this logic further, extend to 3" keeping it ultralight, use 3025 two-blade props on 1103-1104 motors. Personally, I think it will be even more fun.

With 1103 or 1104 motors? You can try but I don't think you have enough to spin 3-bladed prop. I may be wrong

you think an 1104 would be better? ive done some calculations and a "standard" 1104 is almost 5-6 grams while an 1103 would be at around 3.5. and i think going 2s 8000kv is the best way than going 3s for both weight and effeciency (cause if i go 3s id have to get 1104-1106 motors and theyre much heavier than the 1103's plus the weight of a battery)

Nice one! very compact.
chances are the fc / vtx is filtered enough for you to not need the cap, saving onother couple of grams on the ziptie, cap and wires. You could go wtih nylon bolts as well (though not as durable for a tall stack like this), though would definitely switch to nylon bolts for the props, save weight a tiny bit and get the load off the motors :) (probably all unnecessary, but if you reeeeeally wanted to push even further haha)

well im not really sure of what im trying to achieve actualy hahah. I want it to be heavy enough to have momentum for acro but i also want it to be lightwieght for efficiency and in case of crashes. well its still a prototype...its a long way from being the final verion ahhaha. ohh i added the cap cause i accidentally unsoldered 2 caps by the battery pads and idk i felt obligated to just add a small one haha. I dont feel the weight if i have expo on the throttle and it feels natural anyways
