The Falcon Multirotors Babyshark is shipping now! Get yours for only $25!

Babyshark Pod is a 2" brushless micro designed to look cute and crash hard. It's a very tight build that requires a very specific set of components, so it's not for everyone, but it's definitely rewarding to build and tons of fun to fly.

This TinyFish FC is amazing, RSSI, telemetry, current sensor, blackbox, and SBUS D8 RX?! Much to my surprise, the 1103 10,000kV motors don't even get warm on 2S with 2035 quadblades and it has tons of power! With a little tuning and less-windy weather, this thing will be a riot.

Build tips

  • The stack: M2 8mm steel socket cap screw -> frame -> M2 nylon nut -> ESC right side up -> M2 3.5mm female to male standoff -> FC upside down -> M2 nylon nut -> M2 nylon nut -> FSD TX-200 -> M2 nylon nut
  • I hand-cut nylon standoffs to 3.5mm with an Xacto knife to get it all to fit as low profile as possible
  • I mounted the flight connector upside-down so the USB port would not get in the way of the VTX
  • I put VHB between the VTX and the FC, as well as on the back of the camera to prevent shorting
  • I used the E-flite-style batteries with the 3-pin JST-PH connector,
  • I hotglued and heatshrinked the leads on the female JST-PH connector so the pins don't slip in, so both wires, individual heatshrinked, hotglued, then heatshrink around both wires and partially covering the connector
  • I used 24AWG wires for the ESC power wires as the batteries I was using used 24AWG, so there's no reason to use a larger gauge for a shorter length of wire

  • To Phreakin FPV for feedback on the canopy's resistance to bending
  • To Anisoptera for her pro-tip of using hair ties for the battery
  • To nwbb for the stream of information regarding current offerings in the micro brushless arena
  • To all the other testers for their insights and feedback

Do you have any problems with the vtx heating up cause it doesn't get enough airflow? Also what power do you run it on? BTW the frame is awesome!

lazd   Jun 04, 2018

I haven't had an issue with it, but another friend that built a Babyshark did... I supposed it's a toss up. I think I ran it on 25mW, but changing anything on that VTX is harder than entering the Konami code...

What is max size cams that fit on there?

lazd   Feb 06, 2018

It's designed for the RunCam Micro Swift/Foxeer Micro Arrow, or any other cam that's 19mm wide with M2 holes.

Did you use a separate 5V regulator? I didn't think the micro cmos could handle 2S voltage.

Waaaaaant! (I don't have any small rigs other than my whoop)

I Like! Where to buy?

lazd   Jul 31, 2017

They're coming soon! I have several people testing it, then we're doing a round of revisions, then cutting V1. DM me your e-mail address and I'll make sure you get the first one!

This is a really cool setup! I can't seem to find much more about it anywhere. Do you have an updated ETA? Any info on the prototype prop guards?

lazd   Sep 20, 2017

Babyshark will be here in 2-3 weeks, and will be available directly on The prop guards do work and will be available for printing at home.

Hey, nice build, I have build a DIY Aurora 90mm, but it won't take off (ESC or motors issues), this one have lot of punch with this motors and ESC ?

PS: I have the BR1103B 8000kv and bad 10A ESC

lazd   Sep 07, 2017

Yeah it scoots pretty good on the BR1103B 10000kV and 2S!

Whiffles   Jul 31, 2017

If only somebody made nylon standoffs shorter than 6mm. How did you cut them down?

lazd   Jul 31, 2017

I know huh? I ended up just cutting it in half with a razor blade, and it worked perfectly!

UnderDawg   Jul 30, 2017

Nice! That's one of the coolest 2'' builds I've ever seen.

lazd   Jul 31, 2017

Thanks! I don't think it would have been possible without the new 16mm FCs!

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
