This is my fifth quadrocopter and fourth Lumenier frame (QAV400, QAV250, QAV210, QAV-R) and this got rebuilt from my previous QAV210 posting. As with all my builds I have a great focus on aesthetics and durability. Everything is soldered on or has solid connections. Loctite on the motor and frame screws. I usually tape a lot of things to protect them from dirt, for example the underside of all four arms gets taped to prevent dirt from getting to the motor c-clip (not shown in pictures). The tape used is Tesa black premium Gaffer's tape. I have no OSD because a battery alarm via telemetry (Futaba system external voltage sensoring) is enough for me.

Weight: 345 g (everything except LiPo and GoPro)
AUW with LiPo: 511 g (T:W=7.5)
AUW with LiPo and GoPro: 589 g (T:W=6.5)

Some more photos here:

Special considerations:
– I applied a bit of super glue around the sides to strengthen the carbon fibers and sanded afterwards, the other CF parts are sanded only
– The LiPo is secured by a rubberized strap but I also glued a rubber sheet on the top plate to prevent slippage
– The RC reciever got decased and the pin headers removed to make is small enough for the space available.
– I've yet to find double sided tape that behaves better than 3M VHB. Good stuff.
– I went for fancy anodized aluminium screws holding the motors and frame plates. They save about 10g in total. THe Lumenier textured standoffs are even lighter than similar black anodized aluminium standoffs, that's because they are hollow throughout.
– The GoPro mount is custom made.
– Everything should be water resistant, with the biggest weak point being the ESCs, which I haven't coated yet. Everything else is pretty much waterproof due to epoxy coatings on PCBs and Liquid Tape over solder connections.
– I've added a small connecetor in between the camera and VTX, so that I can go into the camera's OSD menu on the field. This is convenient to change the exposure, for example.
– The buzzer's ground is connected to the Lux, the positive side is conected to the LiPo voltage. That way, the buzzer is much louder. This works because the Lux only switches the ground side and would pass through 5V to the buzzer + pad.
– The GoPro has red Gaffer's tape around it so that I can find it when it has been catapulted away from the quad.
– The FPV camera lens is a Stock Optics 2.5 mm f/2 lens, should be better quality than the lens that comes with the camera and I find 2.5 mm to be a good middle ground while 2.1 mm feels too wide for me. I added red epoxy on the sides to further strengthen it against crashes. I've once had a lens fall apart from a crash...
– My order of the new DAl 5x4x3 triblades is already on its way, right now the HQProps are the best choice but they always break on impact.

awesome build. still cant figure out what the thing taped between futaba antennae and vtx antenna is...

Also, what'd you plastidip? I dont see any evidence of it.

That thing is a Loc8tor Lite tag, used to find the quad if the beeper doesn't work anymore. The Liquid Tape was used to cover all the solder connections, the linked imgur album shows some more details of that.

Very nice photos and it looks like quite a high end quad. How does it fly?

I can't say yet, maiden will be tomorrow, but I have high hopes. Should be a top performer.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
