This was a challange for me, the goal was a pretty looking but great flying cinamatic quad, that preforms as intended, supurbly.
everything id very neat and tidy with minimal solder joints showing, with only the top pads being used for leds.
The capacitior is hard mounted to the top plate with a zip tie to keep it out of the way.
The props do sit a bit to high in the duct so their is a gap between the prop and duct, possibly loosing efficency their.
hover and los it preformed great on stock bf pids
fpv view is clean and crisp, good detail, and lots of range with the 1.5w vtx
unfortuatly i didnt take photos of the process as i was in a flow building it.
feel free to ask questions.
oh and i left 4 screws off, by accident as seen in the photos, for the top plate. i did one final check of the componets.

I love the look of the build but I agree that the 1507 motors are about 3 mm taller than needed. (Especially for a ciniquad) Using motors that are shorter would allow for the props tips to be closer to the duct walls, there-by reducing prop-tip vortices. With that expect a reduction of 3-7 % in prop losses and a much quieter flight. Besides, all the added motor height does is improve the high-end power while making the motor less efficient overall. (Great for punch-outs but not for battery life)

I'm not sure what that 1507 motor weights as its not listed on the mfr website. Through a 1404 motor should be lighter and draw less current but may not have the low RPM torque to push that multiblade propeller. Now a 2204 would have much greater low end torque and weigh around 14 grams, which i " guesstimate" to about what the 1507 weighs...

So have a look at these: https://www.racedayquads.com/products/brotherhobby-vy-2004-3150kv-motor
After all, big props require more bottom end torque to get that thing spun up or brake. (motors brake to induce differential torque)

So to recap...
-Use shorter / wider motors.
-Keep the propeller inside the duct wall, not the duct lip.

the 1507 are 44k rpm and 2004 are 29k rpm thats a huge difference in power!

hoodwinked   Mar 02, 2021

as this is not my first cinawhoop, the 1507 are 100% better than other motors i have tried for this specialized category. the increase in rpm drastically changes the flight character, and the 4150kv on these motors increase both throttle resolution, weight carry capacity with a minor decrease in flight time.

the prop ducts with these motors fit 3.1 inch props as well which are snug against the duct, and i have tried the T motor 3.1 inch props and have had good success, but they are noisy (obnoxious) and requires more stick input for the same movements.

I have a very similar build and looking to add the unifi pro 32 hv, how did it fit?

hoodwinked   Mar 02, 2021

The fit of the pro 32 is very tight, and needs to be carefully placed to allow the antenna cable to bend into place.
other than that, it works well on my current setup and blasts signal through solid walls with ease.

any idea what sort of payload this can handle?

hoodwinked   Mar 02, 2021

At the current moment i'm running a unmodified hero 9, custom ND mount and a 1550 mah 4s. this handles the weight like its nothing. i have not tested the max lifting capacity at the moment. but i hope this gives you a general idea.

it looks awesome

Thank you very much.

wow, 8 blade props? how are they doing? noise? what about motor KV?

hoodwinked   Jan 29, 2021

the props are doing great, they have been my favorite for a while, noise is quite a lot lower than a 3 or 5 blade prop, more bearable to the ears. the Kv is 4150 using a 4s but a throttle limit is used for 6s.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
