Oh the Eachine Tyro79. It was one of the first super cheap BNF quads. It was my first quad larger than a micro, and it treated me well. It has crashed many times but never burned up any components or broken any parts. It flies just fine when tuned and can do all the acro. But now that I've made the switch to DJI, it hasn't seen much use.

I happened to have a Caddx Vista lying around just waiting to grace a shiny new flying machine. But then I saw the Tyro79 and thought I'd chuck it in there instead.

What you see here is the result of Frankenstein wiring the stock ESC and FC to a digital FPV unit. To build this, first took apart the tower to remove the RX and VTX. I soldered the wires from the Vista to the various bare pads on this micro board. They are poorly labeled, but you can use the online high-res images to work it out. The Tyro79 FC only has 2 UARTS and no power pin greater than 5 volts. I had to power the AU directly from the 3S battery. Sbus was easy to connect, and the RX/TX MSP control to the AU worked fine on UART 2. I pasted my favorite OSD config and it worked great.

The AU is just slid onto the 20x20 tower pins and is held in place by the frame. The frame now sits about 2.5mm off the bottom plate. I compensated for this by using longer screws. I know what you're thinking about the lens. I'll probably drill new holes, but I've already ordered the spare glass for when this inevitably breaks. This craft seems to have a history of taking it on the nose.

So now I have a $150 air unit stuffed into a $79 bargain quad. At least if I lose this, this is the cheapest HD build I could have managed to lose.

Any chance you could take a screenshot of the BetaFlight setup screen for connecting to the vista? A closeup shot of the FC connections would be super useful, too.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
