Hyperlite Floss 2.0 w/ DJI FPV System & Dal Folding Props

The Hyperlite Floss 2.0 conversion became something a little more than I originally planned. As I was taking apart the Floss, I was trying to figure out how to keep the 20x20 stack low enough to stuff the DJI Air Unit on top. The Talon 4in1 ESC with the red aluminum heatsink takes up a lot of space. So, I removed the entire Talon stack and replaced it with an older HGLRC F428. I know it is a down grade in many levels, but I think it should do fine. All I really need is 2 open UART and the HGLRC F428 stack has it.

For a light quad I think the 2207 motors is more than what it really needs, plus I do not race either. That is why I decided to cut some weight by switching to 2205 motors. Until I fly it, I would not know if this was a good decision to switch motors. Unlike all my previous five DJI FPV System builds, this quad lost some weight after the conversion. I think I lost most of the weight from the motors and 4in1 ESC.

The 3D Printed DJI FPV Conversion was created by bopiloot from cults3d.com. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/hyperlite-floss-v2-dji-fpv-conversion This is also my first time purchasing a 3D model and I have to say it was well worth the whopping three dollars I spent. Almost everything fit very well. I dislike how both ends of the Immortal T antenna mount was sitting on top of the arms. So, I end up zip tying the antenna to the arm instead. I was kind of skeptical about how the 3D printed mount wraps around the air unit. After printing the part and testing it out, I have to say it feels very sturdy.

Maiden Flight - March 16, 2020

I was not 100% sure if the HGLRC F428 stack would work with the DJI Air Unit but it worked flawlessly! I am not sure what is this big hype about DJI FPV System ready flight controllers because it seems like any FC that has 2 open UART and is F4 or faster will work. I guess it is more of a marketing strategy to get you to buy something new.

Like with all my previous DJI FPV builds I am using betaflight firmware version 4.1.5 with all stock PIDs, Rates, and Filtering. With all stock setting on betaflight it flies pretty well. It could use some minor tuning, but I am going to leave it as is. On the maiden flight I did not have any expectations and I was not really impressed. I thought about changing back to bigger motors and see if I notice any differences. But later that same day I flew 3 pack on with the Floss 3.0 (which I built 14 days earlier) because I was waiting for the Loctite to try on my motor screws. I loved how the Floss 3.0 flew and it seemed it had so much more power and speed. I was about 70% ready to start swapping out the 2205 motors back to 2207. Then I decided to give the quad one more flight before I make any changes. Keep in mind, this will be my second pack ever with this Floss 2.0 setup. With the Floss 3.0 flights as a comparison, the Floss 2.0 with the 2205 motors felt better. The throttle is a lot smoother and it is easier to control. I am sure my flying skills plays a role in all of this, but I am really liking the current configuration.

Update (May 20, 2020) - New Antenna Mount

Thanks to bopiloot, he sent me the 3D file for different layout for the Immortal T antenna holder. He designs great 3d models that not only look wonderful but it is also easy to print. I was able to print that antenna mount with out any support! You should check out the stuff he has created: https://cults3d.com/en/users/bopiloot/creations

Overall I Dal folding props feels great. It is not any better or worst than the Gemfan 51466x3 Hurricane props that I was using already. As you can see in the pictures below, both props weight about the same. During my first flight with the props I got about five and half minutes of flight time, so it seems efficient. With the props being able to fold, this will make it so much easier to take with me.

Here is a flight footage with the folding props.

Hi wrong17,
Thank you for honest feedback of the printed parts. Could I maybe offer you an alternative mount for the floss frame? One that extends the antenna under the arms, since I assume you have a bottom mount battery. Similar to the one I designed for the kopis. (see picture)
Grtz

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
