Tadpole Twig donor

I originally bought the Eachine Twig 115 for a donor project.  As soon as the Tadpole was released I knew I would buy one. The Twig components seemed like a good start.  I wasn't impressed with the Twig.  The canopy broke on the first crash and the screws in the stack were bent.  I had lots of jello issues even after I upgraded to BF 4.1 with rpm filters.  This was also my first battery under frame design.  I really prefer the top mount battery, so the Tadpole seems like a perfect fit.

The motors may be underpowered but time will tell.  If I need to replace them I'll probably get some Xing motors.

Hello, nice build :D I`m doing exactly the same build, just using the HD version of the twig.
Did you get the quad flying okay? Can you share your PIDs? i get some heavy wobble at lower throttle with 3018 triblade props, what props are you using?

I also had the HD version of the Twig but couldn't get everything to fit - (stack too tall). I would have had to modify the frame to get it all in there. So on this build I gave up and threw in the standard camera. It flew pretty good on BF defaults with rpm filtering. I have since rebuilt this completely to fit the HD cam, but I used different motors and stack. With the extra weight of the new build I had tuning issues and switched over to Emuflight. For me Emuflight worked better.

Still working on prop selection. The EMAX Avan props have been the best for me so far. They have the least jello and worked great on the original build. On the heavier HD build they aren't very linear. Low rpm flying is hard so throttle control is more difficult. Otherwise they work great.

Here is the link to the rebuild:

I forgot to mention that I do prefer how the heavier build flies. The extra weight makes it feel more like a 5" and you can throw it around for freestyle tricks. The non-HD build was like a really angry wasp, but would be great at racing.

thanks i will try tune betaflight, and if im not happy i will try emuflight.
yess the HD version needs some work to get it in there, but its possible if you direct solder the wires and remove the motor plugs :D
Tried the Avan 3" size? im going to test them on 2.5" avans, indoor looks fine at lower rpms.

hello :) nice build!. i am doing almost the same build at the moment :D... but i hope for your help !, what did you do in betaflight with board an gyro allignment ??? really hope for your help

I put the board in upside down from what the Twig had so the USB port faces up.  In Betaflight I had to set pitch to 180 degrees.  I also had to swap motor resources from motor #1 to motor #2 and swap #3 and #4.  Then I checked rotation of the motors and reversed them in JESC so they spun the correct direction.   Hope that helps.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
