Trashy 2" Build

For my 3rd build I decided to go with a 2" Micro quad for a winter setup and indoor flying.

Originally I wanted to get a Caddx Turtle V2 with on board DVR to record some of the flight footage, but decided against it since I wasn't sure if I would have enough vertical room in the frame.

Now for the juicy stuff:

Parts List

Frame - iFlight iX2 2" Micro

I went with the iFlight iX2 2" Micro because it was one of the smaller, and cheaper options I could find. I haven't seen many builds (maybe just one) on rotorbuilds using this frame, so I decided to give it a shot. I've also seen the quality of the iFlight frames first hand, and think it was a good value for $16 bucks.

FC - iFlight SucceX Micro F4 V1.5

When it came to choosing a FC, I wanted something that was cheap and provided me with as little guesswork as possible, fortunately iFlight offers this SucceX Micro stack that has everything I need: Flight Controller, 4-1 ESC, and VTx! After doing some research I decided that the 12A ESC's should definitely suffice for the 1105 motors I plan on using, I might be pushing it with the quad blade props though, but I won't know till I try it out.

Motors - iFlight XING Nano X1105 4500Kv

I was skeptical with going with the XING motors, since I can't really find any information regarding the max current draw (Amps). But after comparing it to motors of similar size, and watching some videos on their max current (Amps) with different prop setups, I am estimating these things to pull around 8 Amps WOT (Wide Open Throttle) with the 2035 Quad Blade props that I chose. Coupled with the 12A ESC's I should have enough power delivery for this setup. The videos also shows a max thrust of 222g for each of these motors (888g total), and with my all up weight of around 136g, I am calculating a power to weight ratio of 6.5:1. (Here's a link to EngineerX's video)

**FPV Camera - Foxeer Arrow Micro Pro 600TVL CCD (2.1mm) (Blue)

Like I mentioned before I originally wanted to mount a Caddx Turtle V2 into this frame, but wasn't sure about the size limitations of the frame. But Foxeer so far has impressed me with their FPV cameras, and plus it comes in blue, which matches the black and blue theme I am going for.

FPV Antenna - Foxeer Lollipop V3 5.8GHz U.FL (Black)

A U.FL Foxeer Lollipop in black, since I really couldn't find it in blue. I also like the finish and quality on these little guys.

Props - Gemfan 2035BN Quad-Blade 2" (Blue)

Blue Gemfan 2035's in a quad prop setup to further accentuate the black and blue theme, plus I have nothing but good things to say about Gemfan and their durability so far!

Batteries - Tattu 14.8V 4S 450mAh 75C

These Tattu 4S 450mAH were on sale for $10 dollars a piece, so I went ahead and ordered 4 of them, which is insane considering the price of one 1500mAH battery of the same price. They are also high discharge 75C, with a max burst of 150C. These should pack more punch than I need!

Receiver - Spektrum SPM4648

I am still stuck with a Dx6 Spektrum receiver for now, so I went with the lowest priced DSMX Quad serial receiver with diversity I could find. I always stick with the name brand receivers to dismiss any potential issues that are often found in the lower budget Lemon and Orange RX receivers with the same functionality.

Does the frame support 16 x 16 stack or you need some kind of mount or adaptor to convert from 20 x 20 to 16 x 16. Please advise.

Have you looked at the SPM4650 rx? Only a few dollars more and uses the new bidirectional protocol (SRXL2), and supports full telemetry. I use them with my DX6E and love having RSSI in the OSD, now.

I bet you just love ripping this little bird. I have those Nanos on my X2 and that made me build my micro hex with their 1206's. For me... the 2" is just too much fun; micros get way for flight time than anything else in my squadron. Nice post for a killer build.

Edit: You should try out some 2" HQ V1S if you haven't.

Just really got to start flying it around my house today! The house isn't that big, or spacious, and it snowed today (rare ocassion) where I live so I really can't wait to get it outside to see what kind of performance I get. I am thinking a bigger battery might help extend my flight times though. What size batteries are you running on your 2" (maH / Cells) ? I will definitely check those props out, placing an order for them tonight, thank you!

Oh... umm I really love the Venom 3S 650 ($10). They are kinda small, and not long-lived for hard rips, but the power is clean and steady. I haven't flown anything else for a long time as they are "real lipos" and most other offerings are a little too toy-like for my tastes (micros are serious business round here).

Sweet build
That frame will take the Emax 2.3" prop

Trashyfpv   Nov 28, 2019

That's awesome! What size motors are you running?

Emax 1106 - 6000 kV
It used to be a cinewhoop....

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
