Armattan Chameleon Ti LR 7"

Long ago (hah) I built the Flite Test FT270 6" chase quad, and learned to fly multirotors with it. After that I built maybe 6 other quads, and rebuilt or reconfigured them dozens of times since then, and eventually tore down that 6" and fit most of the parts onto this amazing 7" monstrosity from Armattan. The LR versions of the Chameleon Ti are simply awesome - There's tons of room to play with the build, and the flight characteristics are smooth, locked in, docile when you want and still capable under power.

I'm not a great long range pilot or anything, I don't even have a 900mHz system, but I do like the larger propped quads for cruising treetops in the wooded hills surrounding the neighborhood. It's so smooth at speed that it makes the landscape seem small.

The Hyperion HV pack that I used for the FT270 originally is ancient, and internal resistance has built up almost to the point that it should be retired. I'm amazed by how long high capacity packs can last, particularly when some small packs stand to get binned after a handful of flights. The G7 2800mAh is the only high voltage LiPo that I haven't had to toss yet, it's outlasted several Tattu v2.0 R-Lines. It'll probably go a couple more flights.

This stack configuration has been my standard setup across a few builds. CLRacing F4S with a Split 2 board on top, and some form of DShot1200 ESCs on the arms. I used to put caps on the ESCs, but the v1.4 F4S has a better filtering setup and I haven't had a single problem.

I really have been wanting to build one of these but am having trouble pulling the trigger. It eithers going to be the 5" or 7" chamelleon TI. I was to be able to have the option to go long range but still be able to do some nice freestyle with it. I was going to go with the Dalrc 50A 4 in 1 esc along with the CLracing f4s. I see you are only using 35a esc's. What kind of punch do you get out of it?

I've disassembled this quad since moving into class D airspace, but I never felt like I was pushing the limits of those ESCs.  It always popped up or hit speed right away. Granted, I'm not super aggressive and rarely hold onto full throttle punchouts. I was using the 1900kv F80s on 4S, my blackbox logs from back then don't show anything over 135 amps and almost no 100% throttle holds, but to reiterate, I was mostly cruising, usually with heavier 3000mah packs, and flying freestyle on regular 1300-1500.  Still a great quad - that 50a would probably allow for a more aggressive prop choice with more current headroom.  Mine flew like a regular 5 inch until you flung it, the size and weight really wasn't too dramatically different otherwise.

I should mention, I kept my 5" Chameleon Ti together, it's hard to beat a 5" for all around fun...  LR is always an option no matter the size, particularly if you're using a 900mhz system already.  Now that I don't live in the sticks my larger quads are too conspicuous, I've spent way more time flying a sub 250g 3" now - but it's still got LR capability 🤙

hey man thanks for the reply. I pulled the trigger about 15 minutes ago i ended up going with the 35a tekko 4 in 1. i am gonna be running 6s on it so if you were good on 4s ill be good on 6s.

I currently own a 5" martian ii. I really enjoy it but my flying style is smooth fast controlled stuff. i am not super jerky. Think cruising down the higher in the city in the middle of the night with some chill music on. i feel like 7" will allow me longer times to get into a grove and find my line. Thanks again for the response really appreciate it!!

Do you think you could fit two 1500mah or 1300mah 4s packs on that thing? I want to run an 8s setup 😁

Oh yeah, 1500 is getting close - you can always try stepping up cell count gradually, honestly the way three-phase stuff works I bet motors will be fine so long as everything else besides the motors can handle the voltage.  Moderate the throttle and check temps constantly and then push it 👌

hey man, whats the all up weight without battery on that thing?

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
