not quite true. while mIRC is locked up, you can type '/timer* off' and press Enter. when you next ctrl+break, it will perform that command and disable the timers.

in fact, this case is even easier. you should be able to execute '/timer* off' in between successive firings of the timer, since /Animation doesn't include an infinite loop.
