I'm working hard to finish up our new Markdown editor. We'll still support BBCode, but everything will be converted to Markdown when edited. It's far more powerful and offers more features including tables, multiple heading sizes, ordered lists, and so on. I'm also adding a new "Preview" button when composing a Snippet so you can see how it'll look before you post it.
I've been contemplating the Platform/Category system. I'm starting to question whether or not this is truly necessary. I think most folks writing an article online include the appropriate keywords in the title making a category unnecessary. While I think this will work well with our target audience I'm not sure how well it'll work with folks who still post mIRC code. By removing the prompt for a platform the form will be greatly simplified and look far less intimidating. Ultimately my goal is to reduce it down to a blank white slate with a title.
