Here's something that could be a nice addition to Hawkee, http://bit.ly/1eiw1rR - I still need to consider what other options are out there, but this is a start.
WYSIWYG and Markdown don't seem entirely compatible. Markdown makes it easier to format plain text, but WYSIWYG is entered more like rich text. While you could provide a rich text editor that stores the data in markdown, you don't really realize the full benefits of markdown.
What I'm considering doing here is allowing for Markdown input, but only when the content is posted will it show the formatting. I may try this parser, http://parsedown.org
When I look for modern web tools I always search Hacker News first, https://www.hnsearch.com/search#request/submissions&q=wysiwyg+editor - You might find something useful there.
How funny, I am looking into editors right now as well. I don't think the one you linked to fills my need as I am looking more for a wysiwyg editor due to my clients preference.
If anyone knows a great and lightweight WYSIWYG editor, please respond here with a link. I think I have looked into most the common ones but they all have different things going for and against them and most are just too large. I really need something simple with basic text control like font, bold, italic, size, color, heading but I do not need all the list, table, alignment, justification, etc. My client does want it to have a youtube/video button and image button as well.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
