Microsoft provides free virtual images of their operating systems with IE 6, 7, 8 and 9 to test IE on Mac and Linux machines, http://bit.ly/XG76dm

IE is probably the worst browser ever to plague the internet.

Hawkee  -  Nov 14, 2012

The statistics certainly confirm that. Here at Hawkee the browser statistics breakdown like this: 41% Chrome, 31% FireFox and 11% IE

Only about 3% of our users are still on IE 8, so I think its safe to focus testing on IE9 + IE10.

Don't know if there are the same links but I'll still leave this here: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/xd44g

That is different. Those still require a license to run, but these IE test VMs are completely free.

Saves that link for later Wish I would have known about those a long time ago, might have saved me some money. In any case some iso's of Windows should be useful when I end up destroying Windows again, and have no access to a disc.

These downloads have been available for some time, but I posted this link on both Twitter and Hacker News anyway. Got quite a few retweets and HN Karma. Just goes to show old information still has value in social media.

This spurred quite a discussion over at Hacker News, some very useful information, http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4786794
