Description

This is a toy car simulator made using the same algorithms used in Curtain and Ragdoll Aquarium.

Use Up and Down to accelerate/deaccelerate
Use Left and Right to tilt
Click and drag to pick up the car
To score, drive on one wheel for as far as possible

Updated May 4, 2011:

  • Added tilting with left/right arrow keys
  • Added scoring (based on how far you can go on one wheel)
  • Fixed bug where key presses weren't registered by Mac users
  • Fixed the noise function so it's consistent in applets

23.3 just now on the new Firefox 4. Not sure if I'm just getting better or the newer version is faster.

Yea, clicking resets your score, however I didn't add anything to prevent it from adding up after you've thrown it.

If I remember right, the car originally went a little faster, but every time you accelerate while tilting the car flips.

I had the gravity up higher because the car practically floated to the ground. I might lower it in the next update if it ever needs it. Thanks for the suggestions, SunnyD.

Not sure how I acquired it; I checked the max score and there it was. D:

EDIT: It seems that throwing the car affects your score.

EDITEDIT: If you're keen to do an update of this sort; it might be worth adding a little horsepower under the hood and possibly add some laws of physics. (Mainly to make jumping, wheelies, flipping etc.. easier)

I had a problem in the object code. It's all fixed now. My best score is only a 16.4, it's kinda tough.

That's interesting. The applet seems to work on my site and OpenProcessing. Here it's having memory errors involving the font.

I'm not sure what to do here. Maybe it's how you're embedding it?

Hawkee: I'm adding a scoring based on how far you can go on just one wheel.

Great, the tilting seems pretty good so far. I think it might be nice to have a scoring system based on the quality of the jumps and landings.

Also I'm considering the idea of turning it into a game sometime eventually. We'll have to see.

Thanks for the help, guys.
Hawkee: I'll upload the version as soon as I can. Right now I'm working on the tilting function for the car.

Yeah, definately needs a change. I only found that out by accident :p

EDIT: works fine on that site.

BlueThen, can you upload the working version? I'm not sure if it will automatically replace the broken one so I think it'll be a good test for the demo system here. I'm also considering changing the button. "Try Demo" makes it sound like it's only a partial execution. Maybe I should just say "Run" or something along those lines.

BlueThen, works perfectly! Now it just needs some sort of goal or scoring system. I'm not a huge fan of the rainbow color though.

Ok, so can one of you run the demo and open the Java console (I wouldn't know how, but hopefully this helps: http://fxtrade.oanda.com/help/troubleshooting/java-console#MAC_PLUG ). Every time you press a key in the program, it'll echo that key.

Tell me what it says for when you press each of the arrow keys.
